Clifton Samuels is a murderer who killed "three, maybe four times." He was incarcerated at the same penitentiary as James Pike. When Pike was using his own blood to "decorate" the walls of his cell with an ancient Taelon myth, Samuels warned him that he should stop.
Later, when Da'an visited the penitentiary he asked Samuels why he was incarcerated. Da'an touched Samuel's hand and the inmate told the Taelon that he could love him.
